For whatever it's worth, While workin' on the first of these three Jungle Themed Calendars, I started scribbling out a few odd story ideas - eventually assembling them into a few pages... Then Walt kicked in a few other ideas, while I sketched some more - added a few bits here an' there - removed other panels and so on (like a 2nd more explicit lezzy sex scene -- Aw...) Eventually arriving at these current story pages - I don't really have time to finish it - so thought I might as well present the sketch & layout version for your perusal, before I shelve it - probably forever...

As for this month's "Ze-Bra" calendar - it was another old idea that I dug out - mostly just as an excuse to post the story... Had thought about posting the story in June, but didn't... So when I thought maybe I'd do it for July, I needed another jungle calendar... An' I gotta admit- while workin' on the thing, I did more than once, think to myself, that perhaps this was an idea best left on the shelf... But I needed something for the calendar, an' I was already into it - so this was it...ApeCat Pix

Or at least, that's my excuse... JQ

While for those of you interested in La of Opar:

Tarzan's Africa seemed littered with ancient lost civilizations - though Opar was ERB's original "Lost City" an outpost of ancient Atlantis - its inhabitants featured a strange duality of bestial apelike males and sexy females -- Hey, ERB knew what sells! Just working from memory an' Wikepedia here, but I believe Opar first shows up in the 2nd Tarzan novel "The Return of Tarzan" (1913) and about half the story takes place there... Unlike many of ERB's story chix, who stay frigid until the final chapter, following her first meeting with the Lord of the Jungle, High Priestess La warms up considerably! She's seriously hot for Tarzan and makes no secret of it - while he's a cold fish and her wanton lusts go unfulfilled- Darn it!! He's generally more interested in Opar's vast storehouses of golden ingots - Which is a handy thing to have access to, if you're a jungle ape-guy with no discernible means of support...

Opar shows up or at least is mentioned in a few other Novels - and of course is the featured set piece of: "Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar" (1916)- Also if I recall correctly, it's in "Tarzan and the Golden Lion" (1923) that La leaves Opar and experiences a separate set of her own adventures, in alternating chapters from Tarzan (Her luck with guys just never improves)... Burroughs never told us La or Opar's eventual fate - though if you read, Philip Jose Farmer's "Tarzan Alive", he finally closes the Opar plotline... These three ERB books are now Public Domain - the final appearance of Opar in Burroughs' cannon is "Tarzan the Invincible" (1930) - which would not be Public Domain in the US, and I really don't recall much about this one...

Handily enough, many of Burroughs' best novels are public domain and *Freely* available from Project Gutenberg - so you can easily read or sample them there, along with many other great Novels by a myriad of authors...

Uh Huh... JQ
