October 1st 2006Well, here it is October again... The one great thing about October, is there's rarely any question as to what the calendar theme will be... Yes its Witches or Ghosties, or silken hosed Bunnies - the type who go bump in the night... and speaking of things that go "Bump in the Night", if you had attended the San Diego Comic Con this year, then you might've found a pix similar to this in your program booklet... (B&W of course) and seemed to me it was a neat enough idea to reuse here... If you don't understand the caption, when you likely have never seen "Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein" (Stop reading this, run down to your local video rental shop and check it out now!) Okay..... Have you watched it through? Great!! Fun Movie, isn't it? The last of the Classic Universal Monster Movies, with Glenn Strange in his third time around as the Monster... Bela Lugosi in only his second celluloid appearance as the vampiric count (Odd how he's so identified with that role) Lon Chaney Junior as the Wolf Man (since mostly a stunt man did all the leaps an falls an stuff - which is most of the Wolf Man's interesting footage - I always wondered, What did Lon Chaney actually do??) and even Vincent Price (don't blink or you'll miss him) as that tricky Invisible Man... oh yeah, Bud and Lou have a few fun scenes too as the gang sorta wraps up a few of the plot threads that'd been unravelling since Ghost of Frankenstien and through the two "House" movies and so on... Of course for the Pix here, we've also included Claris the Mummy (that Tanna Leaf tea is soooo invigorating) and the Creature (a character with no motivation and less personality, except maybe the motivation to mate with the chic in the white bathing suit -- Hey, I think most guys can relate to that)... Also included a couple of the "THEM" Ants from the first and best of the giant bug movies of the 50s... (Perhaps I should rephrase that as "The First and ONLY watchable giant bug movie)... But even a giant radioactive ant is no match for Marshal Matt Dillon... or James Arness anyway, who hunted them down in the storm drains under Los Angeles... And so, there you have it - October's done, now what should we do for November? JQ |
